Winter seems to be in full swing here. We all know it's so much easier to be active when the weather is nice. For some (including me) the winter can really put a damper on life. It's hard to stay motivated when there are less hours of daylight and it's so cold outside!! I know I have been victim to the winter blues in my past. It's so easy to come home from work and spend my nights watching movies and tv shows.
So, a couple weeks ago I was brainstorming these activities and it came to me. SKIING! I skied for 5 years when I was a teenager and for some reason just stopped. I kept the idea to try skiing again to myself for a little while because I was afraid to give it another shot after so long. But, I decided it was a good challenge for me. So, with a little encouragement, I got my hubby to go with me! We had the best time! You don't realize it at the time but it's such a great workout. I was so sore the next day.
I know skiing isn't for everyone but there are so many other things to try! I hope this list provides some suggestions to help get your booty off that couch! I think it's important to remember that you don't have to hibernate in the winter! Get outside!
I hope you find a couple activities to try!
I'd love to hear what suggestions you have to add to my ever growing list?!

Ice skating: possibly the #1 thing I miss about living in a place where there's an actual winter.
ReplyDeleteGreat winter tips. I'd like to do at least one of them this season....buuuut I probably wont. i hate the cold weather. i plan to sit on my couch until the hot weather comes back!

I skied as a teen and even worked at a ski hill. But my hatred for cold weather took over. Until two years ago when I decided to suck it up and enroll my kids in ski lessons, because if we live in this climate, we may as well not hibernate
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the snow in years. I live in LA and we don't get any of that :( Although I think I'd freeze to death haha.

ReplyDeleteMy husband got an xbox kinect for Christmas with the idea of using it for exercise during the winter months--and you can really work up a sweat with that! I also enjoy ice skating and sledding! Our city has a swing dancing group that meets once a weeks--and I love it when I can talk him into going to that!
ReplyDeleteI am guilty of kinda losing my motivation to work out in the winter, usually. But this winter, for some reason, I haven't had that issue. I think maybe it's because I stopped wearing shorts to work out all of the time, and FINALLY got some capris. They are much warmer, but not too warm. I cannot work out in pants or long sleeves, I get SO hot and then I get tired and want to go home. :) Great ideas, though, thank you for sharing!

ReplyDeleteI started skiing when I was 3. Totally rockin' workout! Winter is a really tough month - the cold just does not beckon you off the couch at all. Thanks for linking up with Fitness Friday!!
